Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. – Psalm 95:1-7
Throughout Scripture, God’s people are invited to come into His presence with joyful noise, with songs of praise, and with thanksgiving. Praise and honor and worship are offered to God, certainly because of His redemptive works among us. But worship is also due Him, simply because of who our God is. He is a great God and a great King above all others.
This Sunday evening we plan to gather with friends, family and neighbors, desiring simply to acknowledge who He is. We will sing. We will read Psalms of praise and adoration. We will observe the Lord’s Supper together. We will share a meal together afterward. And in all of this, our hope is that we would be reminded of
A) the great glory of our God.
B) And then secondly, like an appetizer increasing ones appetite before a meal, we pray that God would use this evening to remind us of that future day when we are gathered together with…
a great multitude that no one can number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice we will say, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” And all the angels will stand around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they will fall on their faces before the throne and worship God, saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.” – Revelation 7:9-12
