Orphan Sunday November 13th

At Bluff Park Community Church, we desire to be “a diverse, local family of disciple making disciples, proclaiming the Gospel MESSAGE in Gospel COMMUNITY on Gospel MISSION.” One of the clearest ways to live out this identity and display the realities of the Gospel MESSAGE is through the avenue of orphan care.

Whether it be through adoption, foster care, or the support of adoptive and foster families within our church and community, Scripture’s command is clear. The church is called to defend the cause of the fatherless, to care for the widow, the orphan, and the sojourner.

Even as a smaller, local church we have multiple families who have adopted children or have served as foster families within Jefferson County. We currently have families who are waiting, praying even now for a match with a birth mother. Their hearts are primed, their homes are prepared, and they wait.

If you would like to learn more about how you can be involved in adoption, foster care, or in caring for adoptive and foster families within our church and community, we would love to connect you. Here are just a few possible first steps to get started:

1) Pray

Pray for the fatherless, that the Lord would be a Father to them and that He would protect them and provide for them spiritually, physically, emotionally. Pray that the Lord might call families to care well for the fatherless through adoption and foster care. Ask the Lord what role He would have you play. Perhaps His desire for you to adopt, or to be a foster family. Maybe He is calling you to come alongside others and help them as they adopt of foster children. The need is great, and there is room for everyone to serve in some way.

2) Attend worship with us on Orphan Sunday, November 13th.

There will be a brief video highlighting the need for orphan care, as well as an opportunity for those involved in adoption and foster care to be prayed for during worship.

3) Informational meetings with Lifeline Children’s Services.

Informational Meeting — Date: Thursday, November 10, 2016 Time: 6:30-8:00 pm Location: Lifeline Children’s Services 2104 Rocky Ridge RoadBirmingham, AL 35216

4) Wesley and Monica Skinner Adoption

Join with the Skinners in praying for their upcoming adoption. Pray for God’s comfort and care for their hearts. Pray for God’s provision in matching them with a birth mother. Also pray for God’s provision for finances to cover the remaining adoption expenses, some of which will not be known until “go time”. If you would like to give to the Skinner’s adoption fund, you may do so here. Please indicate “adoption” on the comments.
